You can use the Keyword Groups activity in the Settings menu to create, edit, and delete your keyword groups.
You can maintain up to 500 keyword groups—standard or smart—in an account. Review the Keyword Group FAQs article to learn more.

Create a keyword group

Create a standard keyword group
- Follow the path Settings > Keyword Groups.
- Click the Add button and select Standard Keyword Group.
- Enter a name for your standard keyword group and click Create New Keyword Group. Refer to this article to learn what characters and symbols Conductor allows in keyword group names.
- On the Edit keyword group screen, go to the Keywords not in this group tab and select the keywords you want to group into your standard keyword group.
- Click Add Keywords to keyword group.
You can also create standard keyword groups by assigning keywords to a new keyword group with the Bulk Update feature. Refer to the bullet point about the standard keyword groups column in the Keyword Bulk Update article to learn how this is accomplished.
Create a smart keyword group
- Follow the path Settings > Keyword Groups.
- Click the Add button and select Smart Keyword Group.
- Enter a name for the keyword group in the Name field. Refer to this article to learn what characters and symbols Conductor allows in keyword group names.
- Create rules for the smart keyword group. These rules define the keywords dynamically added to the keyword group. You can create up to 15 rules for each smart keyword group.
- Select Contains, Does not contain, Equals or Does not equal from the menu in each rule. Then, enter the value in the field to the right. For example if you create a "Branded Terms" smart keyword group, and want it to dynamically update with any of your branded terms you enter into Conductor, add a Contains rules for each of your branded keywords.
- Use AND operators within rules to require both criteria in the rule to be true.
- Use OR operators within rules to require either criteria in the rule to be true.
- Click Preview to view the keywords that will be added to this smart keyword group, based on the defined rules. Review the list to determine whether it includes the target set of keywords. Modify the rules if needed.
- Click Create Keyword Group to create the smart keyword group.
Edit a keyword group
You can make changes to a keyword group after you have created it. Note that you can also change keyword group membership with the Keyword Bulk Update tool. You should use Keyword Bulk Update if you want to make changes to a significant number of keywords.
Choose whether you want to learn about smart or standard keyword groups:
Edit a smart keyword group
- Go to keyword group settings in Conductor or follow the path Settings > Keyword Groups.
- Select the keyword group you want to edit from the list or click the Edit button.
- Modify the name or rules defined for this keyword group.
- If you modified a rule, click the Preview button to view the keywords that will appear in this keyword group based on the defined rules. Modify rules as necessary.
- Click Update Keyword Group.
Edit a standard keyword group
- Go to keyword group settings in Conductor or follow the path Settings > Keyword Groups.
- Select the keyword group you want to edit from the list or click the Edit button.
- Edit the keywords in the keyword group:
- To add keywords to the keyword group, go to the Potential Keywords tab and do one of the following:
- Click Add Keyword for each keyword you want to add
- Select the check box for each keyword you want to add and click Add Keywords to Keyword Group.
- To remove keywords from the keyword group, go to the Keyword Group Keywords tab and do one of the following:
- Click Drop Keyword for each keyword you want to remove.
- Select the check box for each keyword you want to remove and click Drop Keywords from Keyword Group.
- To add keywords to the keyword group, go to the Potential Keywords tab and do one of the following:
Delete a Keyword Group
You can delete keyword groups after you create them. This can be helpful if you change the way you group keywords or if you have created keyword groups for temporary campaign and no longer want to track campaign keywords together.
Don't worry: deleting a keyword group has no effect on the keywords in the group—they will remain active and tracked.
- Go to keyword group settings in Conductor or follow the path Settings > Keyword Groups.
- Identify the keyword group you want to delete from the list.
- Click the Delete button associated with the keyword group.
