In the world of AI, six months is practically a lifetime.
If you were among the first to set up AI Search Performance tracking in Conductor, congratulations—you gained a massive head start in understanding how LLMs view your brand. But as engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's Gemini evolve their algorithms weekly, the way we "talk" to them needs to evolve too.
We’ve recently rolled out significant enhancements to our Topic and Prompt engine. This isn't just a simple update—it’s a major upgrade to the intelligence powering your data collection.
Here is why (and how) we’re leveling up your AI strategy together.

The Conductor Advantage: Why "Synthetic" Still Wins
Before we dive into the updates, it’s worth a reminder of why our approach to data collection is the gold standard for your business.
While some tools rely on "clickstream" or "panel data"—which often represents less than 0.2% of total search volume and raises significant privacy concerns—Conductor uses Synthetic Prompt Generation.
API-Grounded Intelligence: We go straight to the source, using official APIs from the world’s leading AI engines whenever possible. This ensures your data is compliant, sustainable, and mirrors the actual logic these bots use to answer users.
Semantic Depth: AI doesn't just look for keywords; it looks for meaning. By generating a large number of representative, persona-driven prompts across the entire buyer’s journey for every topic you track, we provide a statistically significant map of your brand’s "content coverage."
The Result: You aren't just seeing a "rank"; you’re seeing if your brand is part of the answer to the complex, conversational questions your customers are actually asking.
What’s Changing: Smarter, Faster, More Human
As the AI landscape has matured, we’ve gathered millions of data points on what makes a "high-signal" prompt. We’ve poured those learnings back into our backend to make your tracking even more precise.
Our evolved Topic and Prompt generation now features:
Enhanced Persona Alignment: Prompts are now more closely tailored to the specific professional or consumer personas you want to reach, ensuring the "voice" of the prompt matches your target audience.
Conversational Realism: We’ve refined our logic to better mimic the natural, conversational way users interact with AI assistants today.
Domain-Specific Context: Our engine now pulls deeper context from your specific industry and domain before suggesting prompts, resulting in suggestions that are significantly more relevant to your unique business goals.
Just take a look at the example prompts below generated for “Best Mattress for Back Pain” using a “side sleeper” persona:

Maximizing the ROI of Your AI Credits
We know your time is valuable, and every AI credit is a strategic investment. You might be wondering: "If I update my prompts now, what happens to my data?"
It’s a fair question. Because AI search is a "live" conversational environment rather than a static index, the most valuable data is often the most current data.
Precision over Volume: Tracking outdated prompts is like using a 2010 map to navigate a 2026 city. Refining your prompts ensures your AI Response Credits are being spent on the queries that actually matter to your bottom line today.
The "Snapshot" Strategy: Unlike traditional SEO, where you might track a keyword for ten years, AI Search is about Content Coverage. An audit allows you to retire topics that are no longer serving you and pivot your "credit spend" toward new high-growth opportunities.
A Managed Evolution: You don't have to boil the ocean. A strategic "refresh" of your top 20% of topics can often yield an 80% improvement in data actionable-ness.
A Living Strategy for a Changing Landscape
The most important thing to remember about AI search is that it isn’t "set it and forget it." As the technology evolves, our collective strategy must remain agile.
Think of this as a continuous partnership:
Our Responsibility: We are committed to relentlessly improving the Conductor platform—updating our backend logic, integrating new AI engines, and refining our prompt generation to stay ahead of industry shifts.
Your Opportunity: To get the best results, you should treat your AI configuration as a "living" document. Regularly curating your prompts ensures they stay perfectly aligned with your changing business priorities and the latest ways your customers are searching.
As the search landscape shifts, we’ll be right there with you, providing the updated tools and insights you need to keep winning.

Follow this workflow to audit your current setup and swap in high-signal, persona-driven prompts using our latest configuration engine.
Step 1: Foundational Check — Your Personas
Before modifying topics, take a moment to review your Persona settings. Our synthetic generation engine uses these profiles to ground prompts in realistic human context.
If you have existing personas: Quickly review them in Settings > Topics and Prompts > “Add Personas” to ensure they still align with your current business priorities. If they do, you're all set!
If you haven't set them up (or need to update them): This is a critical foundational step. Create distinct profiles (e.g., "The Technical Buyer," “The First Time Homeowner”) that reflect your key audiences.

Step 2: Audit and Clean Your Topics
Before moving forward, identify what is no longer serving you.
Action: Go to Settings > Topics and Prompts. Filter for Tracking Status = Active and Active Prompts > 0. Sort the list by Topic name alphabetically to see groups of the same topic tracked on multiple AI Search engines and/or locations.
Decision: Review the list and identify topics that are no longer central to your strategy. Click the Stop button for any outdated topics.
Export: Once your list is cleaned, export it to an Excel. This serves as your reference for the topics and prompt allocation you want to re-add in the next step.
Step 3: Regenerate Using the Evolved Engine
Now, we'll swap the old prompts for high-signal prompts generated by our updated backend.
Stop Tracking in Bulk: Select the topics you want to refresh from your filtered list and click the Stop button.
Power Up the Configuration Wizard: Click the Add Topics button.
Choose Search Engines: Select the relevant engines (ChatGPT (Auto), Perplexity, etc.) and your target Location/Language.
Re-Add Your Topics: Manually enter the topics from your clean Excel export (plus any new suggestions that catch your eye!).
Prioritize Your Credit Spend: Set the number of prompts per topic. You might consider giving your "VIP" categories more coverage (e.g., 100-200 prompts) and newer or emerging categories less (e.g., 25-50 prompts).
Step 4: Fine-Tune the Intelligence
This is where you define the nuances of your prompt generation:
Branded vs. Unbranded: Select a mix for your most important topics to see how you appear in both category research and direct brand queries.
Search Intents: Select the intent stages that matter. Covering the entire buyer's journey is best if credits allow.
-
Personas: Assign the specific personas you reviewed in Step 1.
Pro-Tip: To focus only on highly targeted customer segments and save credits, you can turn off the "Broad Audience" persona.
Configuring Multiple Groups: If Topic A needs a different mix of AI engine, location, branded, search intent, and/or persona tracking than Topic B, run this configuration wizard separately for each subgroup of topics.
Step 5: Final Review and Forecast
Before hitting "Start Tracking," you have two ways to refine your list:
In-Platform Review: Review and edit the generated prompts directly within the configuration wizard to make quick, real-time adjustments.
Bulk Spreadsheet Edit: In the Final Review step, download the final list of prompts to make manual tweaks in Excel, then upload it back into Conductor.
Check the Forecast: Review the Credit Usage Forecast. Ensure you aren't over-configured and that you won't burn through your AI Credit package before your next reset date.
The Takeaway?
Think of this as a "strategic pitstop." You’ve been running the race at top speed; now it’s time to swap the tires and tune the engine so you can pull even further ahead of the competition.
